In recent years the world has become more aware of how animals are treated. Animal cruelty and captivity awareness is at it’s peak, and people are constantly working towards animal rights. Though the state of Utah has begun to change its views as well, setting an example for zoos around the area. The Loveland Living Planet Aquarium has set an example for what a safe zoo should be like, and with that it is safe to say Utah's Hogle Zoo should follow it’s examples.
Loveland Living Planet Aquarium
Joyful animals
Healthy animals
Rescue animals
Friendly staff
In April 2019 Utah’s Loveland Living Planet Aquarium was verified as one of the most healthiest aquariums in the United States by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The animals at the LLPA are happy and healthy, and there have been zero huge mistreatment claims on them. The animals are treated, loved, and cared for with respect, and receive proper medical care, and attention.
The animals are given breaks in the back areas to take a breather away from people, and have a personal trainer to comfort and show them safety at all times. The LLPA is such a safe and sound place.
The Survival Species Plan works with the LLPA, to help endangered species safely breed and raise their populations. Some of these animals include, Gentoo penguins and Clouded leopards, and both animals are healthier than ever. Because of the approval from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, they have began expanding, and will have more animals and perhaps even more to care for from the Survival Species Plan.
The aquarium is a safe and friendly place for all the animals and guests there. The staff is as joyful as the ones in Disneyland, and devotes themselves to the animals health and safety. I feel Utah’s Hogle Zoo should take the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium as an example, and follow in their steps to provide a safe home for animals.
Animals stuck outside
Animals exposed to polluted air
Utah's Hogle Zoo is a mostly outdoor zoo filled with exotic animals such as elephants and giraffes. There has not been many huge claims against the zoo, but it’s almost factual it is not a good place for them. As stated earlier, the Hogle Zoo is mostly outside, which means most of the animals are stuck outside, in Utah’s disgusting air.
Salt Lake City, Utah is ranked the 14th most polluted state in the entire United States, and kills around 2,000 people a year. Civilians alone shouldn’t be outside, so why is it okay that we let zoo animals outside. They sit out there all day and night long, taking in the air. Throughout the entirety of my life, I have seen no actions done to change the safety of the animals, and I see no plans on doing so either. As more companies move into Utah to expand, more pollution is being set into the air. It’s only a matter of time before we start seeing the poor Zoo animals drop like flies. I feel the big outdoor animals should be sent to a cleaner place, while the animals that can be contained inside remain so.
The way people see the treatment of animals has changed drastically throughout the years, and Utah’s Loveland Living Planet Aquarium is an excellent example of a safe zoo. They are constantly working towards keeping the animals healthy, and feeling loved. Utah’s Hogle Zoo should use them as an example, and change to keep their animals safe. If not, they may end up bankrupt in years to come.
